Victor Nelsson really wanted to sign for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but Galatasaray’s demands caused the deal to collapse.
Spurs were desperate for a new defender after Ange Postecoglou took charge of the club before the start of last season. A number of names were linked with a move to Tottenham, and Nelsson was one of them.

Victor Nelsson really wanted to join Tottenham last year
Tottenham had a terrible campaign last season, and it became very clear that they needed at least one new centre-back.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were on the lookout since the window opened last summer. They considered a number of names, but most of their targets became unattainable.
Spurs finally managed to strike a deal with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven, and the Dutchman has been a phenomenal addition to their side.
Another defender Tottenham wanted to bring in at the time was Victor Nelsson, who plays for Turkish champions Galatasaray. Reports claimed they were even leading the race to get him.
Aksam claim this week that Nelsson really wanted to join Tottenham too, but after Galatasaray demanded around £21 million to let him go, Spurs hesitated.
That’s why the deal collapsed and Nelsson had to stay in Turkey beyond the end of the summer window.

Tottenham have strengthened their central defence brilliantly
Tottenham had a reckless Cristian Romero along with the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet and Ben Davies as options in the heart of their defence last season.
That simply wasn’t good enough, and Ange Postecoglou made it a priority to bolster that area of the pitch as soon as he arrived.
Romero was named the vice-captain, and he seems to have matured a lot as a result. Micky van de Ven’s addition has helped massively as well. and he is already one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
To top it off, Tottenham signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in the January transfer window. He is a great addition as well and Spurs’ defence is so much better now than it was last season.
