£15m Tottenham player is set to play his 101st match in just two seasons against Norwich on Sunday
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set for his 101st Tottenham match when they travel to Norwich to round off their season on Sunday.
The Dane will be hoping to celebrate by helping Spurs qualify for next season’s Champions League and their fate is in their own hands.
After Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat against Newcastle last night Tottenham just need a point against Dean Smith’s already relegated side to finish fourth.
That achievement likely means more to Hojbjerg than his own personal accolade, but he did wrack up his 100th Spurs appearance against Burnley on Sunday.
Hojbjerg set for 101st Tottenham match
Hojbjerg was only brought to Tottenham ahead of last season by Jose Mourinho, as he sought to shape the squad to his will.
The midfielder came through the ranks under Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich and there are not loads of players who have played for both managers.
He is now adapting to Antonio Conte’s style of play, getting to grips with the demands of yet another elite manager who drives clubs forward with his personality.
It is fair to say that Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir was impressed with Hojbjerg’s achievement and the fact he is set for Spurs game number 101 this weekend.
How many more Spurs appearances will the £15 million (Sky Sports) man make?
Newcastle have been linked with a swoop for Hojbjerg when the summer transfer window opens and Mourinho has also been rumoured in connection with a Roma reunion.
Conte knows what he wants for this Spurs squad and he will be ruthless in terms of getting out the players he does not need.
Could Sunday be a farewell for Hojbjerg? It is not out of the question, but he is a handy player to have who gives his all.
