'One thing I’m hearing': Mourinho wants to sign 'phenomenal' Spurs star this summer - journalist
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on Jose Mourinho’s radar, according to Dean Jones.
Mourinho brought Hojbjerg to Spurs in August 2020 for a reported £15million from Southampton.
The Denmark international has done well for Tottenham, registering 97 competitive appearances so far.
“I think he’s a phenomenal player,” Mourinho said of Hojbjerg in December 2020 after a derby win over Arsenal.
The 26-year-old has been a first-team regular throughout his time at Tottenham.
He has started all but two top-flight games this season so far.
And one of those he missed was due to a positive covid test.
Meanwhile, Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham in April last year, and he went on to take the reins at Roma.
The former Spurs boss has taken the Giallorossi to the Europa Conference League final.
Jones, writing on GiveMeSport, has claimed that Mourinho intends to plan for a Serie A title tilt next term.
And as part of that, the Portuguese reportedly has Hojbjerg in his sights.
“One thing I’m hearing on Hojbjerg is that Jose Mourinho quite fancies taking him to Roma,” wrote Jones.
“Next season Jose intends to ask the board to back his vision as he thinks they can make a real push at the top of Serie A – and Hojbjerg could be a great asset.”
Unlikely Tottenham will do business over Hojbjerg – TBR View
If Hojbjerg was a fringe player or even a rotational player, then Spurs may be prepared to do business.
But that’s not the case – Hojbjerg is one of the first names on Conte’s teamsheet.
Unless the player wanted to actively leave Tottenham and join Mourinho, then Spurs have no reason to sell.
And there haven’t been any indications that Hojbjerg wants to do that.
Tottenham have several midfielders who seem surplus to requirements – those on loan, and perhaps Harry Winks – but Hojbjerg is not one of them.
