‘Yes’: Arsenal coaches were left applauding ‘breathtaking’ 19-year-old’s goal at Dubai training camp today
Arsenal’s first-team squad have headed to Dubai for some warm weather training before the Premier League resumes.
Mikel Arteta has also called up a number of young Gunners to supplement his squad.
With the World Cup still ongoing, plenty of Arsenal’s first-choice players are either in Qatar or recovering.
This has handed opportunities to the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Lino Sousa, who can be seen working with the senior squad.
Arteta and his coaching staff were seen working on the team’s passing and finishing in the video shared.
Arsenal’s young goalkeepers are certainly put through their paces, with plenty of shots fired their way.
Eddie Nketiah can be seen neatly chipping the ball over one Arsenal stopper, as he prepares to replace Gabriel Jesus after his injury.
Arsenal’s coaches were most impressed with youngster Marquinhos, who scored a wonder goal towards the end of training.
The Brazilian gave the keeper no hope, and it’s not the first time he’s impressed in senior training.
Marquinhos scores wonder goal in Arsenal training
During a finishing drill, the ball is played to Marquinhos on the left.
He cuts inside one of the coaches acting as a defender before playing the ball back to his teammate, who lays it off for him.
Marquinhos then comes onto the bouncing ball, and with the instep of his foot powers the ball into the top corner.
Several people can be heard applauding in the background, while one coach simply shouts ‘Yes!’ in Marquinhos’ direction.
The ‘breathtaking’ 19-year-old has already scored for Arsenal in the build-up to the Premier League restarting.
He was on the scoresheet when Arsenal lost 4-2 to Watford in a behind closed doors friendly last week.
The Evening Standard previously reported that the Brazilian could be loaned out in January.
If Marquinhos keeps scoring wonder goals in training, Arteta might decide against letting him go.
He’s already opened his account in the Europa League, and could be a useful option if the Gunners are fighting for trophies on three fronts in the second half of the season.
