A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Dominik Szoboszlai after his performance and goal for RB Leipzig in their Champions League tie with Manchester City on Tuesday.

The Bundesliga side have ensured that they will go into the Europa League after an impressive win over Pep Guardiola’s men.

It was Szoboszlai who found the back of the net for the game’s opening goal. The Hungary international produced a sublime piece of composure as he latched onto Konrad Laimer’s long pass midway through the first-half.

He danced past Zach Steffen and rolled the ball into the empty net. It was the 21-year-old’s second goal of this year’s competition, with his previous strike coming in the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Andre Silva would double the home side’s lead after the break, with an emphatic finish into the bottom corner.

But for Arsenal fans, Szoboszlai’s goal was a painful reminder of what could perhaps have been 12 months ago.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the attacking midfielder. In fact, Fabrizio Romano suggested last December that Mikel Arteta’s men were the side to watch out for as they needed a player in his mould.

Ultimately, Szoboszlai would leave Red Bull Salzburg during the following January transfer window. However, it would be Leipzig who would manage to complete a £22 million deal.

Unfortunately, life in Germany did not start particularly well for the youngster. He missed the second-half of the season due to injury. And that also prevented him from featuring for Hungary at Euro 2020, having scored the goal that sent his country to the tournament in the first place.

Thankfully, he has been able to stay fit for much of this season. And he has scored three and provided four assists in the Bundesliga. Three of those assists have come in his last eight appearances.

Of course, he has now followed that with a superbly-taken goal against the Cityzens inside the Red Bull Arena as they ended a difficult group-stage campaign on a high.

Some Arsenal fans clearly believe that they have missed the boat on signing Szoboszlai. He is already playing at an extremely high level given his age. And Leipzig are surely only going to let him leave if offered the chance to make a major profit.

‘That’s a player we should be all over’

Others however, have insisted that he is exactly the kind of player Arteta needs to break the bank for. Of course, there was plenty of intrigue surrounding the decision to bring Eddie Nketiah on in Monday’s clash with Everton and deploy him on the left wing. The decision did not pay off.

Szoboszlai has been outstanding in that sort of position this term. And his display on Tuesday certainly caught the eye of many members of the Arsenal fanbase.

With that in mind, here is what some of the Gunners fans made of his performance in the win over Manchester City…
