William Saliba has been an Arsenal player for close to three years now but the young Frenchman is yet to play a single minute of competitive football for the Gunners.
Unai Emery signed Saliba from Saint-Etienne for £27 million in 2019 (Goal) and many Arsenal fans were convinced that he was the future of the club’s defence. He was sent back on loan to ASSE but by the time he came back, things were very different at the Emirates.
The Gunners had sacked Emery and Arteta was appointed as the new manager. The now-Gunners boss watched Saliba in pre-season in 2020 and he was adamant that the youngster was not ready for the Premier League.
Despite good performances out on loan, Saliba’s future is still up in the air. However, he may receive some good news very soon.
Gabriel to Barcelona could open the door for William Saliba at Arsenal
Shock reports from Spain this week have claimed that Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona are keen to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal. That was confirmed by Football London, but the outlet revealed that Mikel Arteta and Edu had no plans of entertaining any offers for the Brazilian.
However, another report from Sport in Spain yesterday claimed that Barcelona are Gabriel’s dream club and the Arsenal man would not hesitate to leave the Emirates for the Camp Nou if an offer arrived.
That would leave a huge hole in Arsenal’s starting eleven, which is not ideal at all.
However, this may well be the good news that Saliba has been hoping for as the young French defender will finally have a spot to claim in Arsenal’s first team if Gabriel walks away this summer.

TBR View:
The ideal scenario for Arsenal would be to keep hold of Gabriel and then find a way to integrate Saliba into the squad, even if it means that the latter would not be the first choice.
However, things don’t always work out in an ideal way.
Saliba should be given a chance at Arsenal regardless of what happens with Gabriel or anyone else in the side. He has done enough on loan to prove that he’s incredible, and Arteta just has to give him an opportunity so that he can show the world what he’s all about.
If Gabriel ends up leaving for Barcelona, Saliba’s chances of succeeding at Arsenal will become a lot easier and that, personally for him, would be excellent news after everything he has been through over the last two years.
