What Leeds will do next if £12m Sean Longstaff bid is rejected by Newcastle

Leeds United are busy strengthening their ranks ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw have all joined Leeds in recent weeks.

However, Leeds are far from finished. The Whites are closing in on a move for Lille left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is also in their sights.

Leeds have submitted a fresh bid for Longstaff, and Ben Jacobs has now provided more information on the matter, including what the Whites will do next if it is rejected.

Leeds have submitted a third proposal to Newcastle for Longstaff, said to be worth £10million plus £2million in add-ons.

Jacobs has taken to X to report that Leeds are now waiting to hear if their £12million package for Longstaff has been accepted.

The Whites are “optimistic a deal can be struck” over the key target, but Jacobs says they are “unlikely to bid again” if the Magpies turn this offer down also.

What Sean Longstaff could bring to Leeds amid exciting Carlton Palmer verdict

Longstaff is a proven Premier League player who has racked up over 170 top-flight appearances over the past seven years.

He is a hard-working, tough-tackling No.6 that can make an impact in both boxes and has shown he can chip in with goals and assists.

Longstaff is also fairly versatile, having previously played in defensive midfield, attacking midfield, and even on the left of midfield on a few occasions.

“He’s only got a year left on his contract, so this would be a very, very good signing,” Carlton Palmer said last year on the prospect of Longstaff joining Leeds.

“This would be a terrific signing for Leeds, a really strong signing for the football club. It’s one thing getting to the Premier League, but it’s another thing staying there.”
