Leeds United now keen on signing player Crystal Palace ignored a clause to buy for just £3.9m

It has been a mixed summer for Leeds so far.

Three exciting deals have been completed, with Lukas Nmecha first joining on a free transfer, before Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw followed from Udinese and VfL Wolfsburg respectively.

However, some targets have slipped away, with Sunderland beating Leeds to Habib Diarra while also pushing to take others from their grasp.

One Leeds target Sunderland are not pursuing is Lucas Perri – and should a deal materialise, Crystal Palace might begin to question themselves.

Leeds could embarrass Crystal Palace if Lucas Perri becomes a Premier League star

It was Beren Cross of The Athletic who claimed that the Brazilian is on the radar at Elland Road as Daniel Farke looks to replace Illan Meslier.

There has been talk of a £12m price tag for Perri given financial struggles at Lyon, although even that reduced fee is much more than Crystal Palace could have landed the South American for back in 2019.

The Eagles signed the goalkeeper on loan from Sao Paulo back in January 2019 while Roy Hodgson was at the helm, also agreeing an option to make the deal permanent for a sum of €4.5m (£3.9m) the following summer.

However, Perri did not play a single minute of football for Crystal Palace, and the south Londoners eventually opted not to spend £3.9m on his services, sending him back to Sao Paulo.

Now, if Leeds can complete a deal, the 27-year-old could return to haunt Crystal Palace next season.

Leeds also keen on Djordje Petrovic, but Sunderland could cause even more angst

TBR Football understand Leeds are also looking at Djordje Petrovic of Chelsea in their hunt for a new goalkeeper.

The Serbian is currently in limbo at Stamford Bridge with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen ahead of him in the pecking order, with an exit likely.

However, Sunderland are advancing in talks to sign Petrovic, so the Black Cats could be about to make life difficult for Leeds once again, having already beaten them to the aforementioned Diarra.
