New signings will be made in the summer at Leeds United if the club are promoted to the Premier League and Carlton Palmer has urged his old side to strike a deal for a £15m-rated midfielder.
Leeds will need additions in a number of roles, if the club do finish in the top two and gain an instant return to the top tier. With eight games to play, Leeds sit joint first – but Leicester have a game in hand.
Ipswich are only a point behind, but Leeds look good for a place back in the Premier League having won 12 of their 13 games since turn of the year in the Championship. Daniel Farke is shining as manager.
Players will be targeted with Premier League experience in the summer, if the club are promoted. One of those being linked at the moment is Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff – which is a bit of a surprise.

Leeds United interested in a shock move for Sean Longstaff
Longstaff, 26, has been a regular for Newcastle this season – but he is hardly first choice. Sandro Tonali has been banned, and couple that with injuries to Joe Willock and Joelinton, and Longstaff has got in.
He’s been a constant fixture in Eddie Howe’s side in the Premier League and the Champions League so far this season. But, he has a contract until June 2025 and Leeds are looking to take advantage of that.
A player that Harvey Barnes once said is “so underrated”. According to the Sunday Mirror (17/3; page 66), Leeds are eyeing a shock move for Longstaff – but the midfielder could cost Leeds a £15m figure.
With Tonali and Joelinton returning, the emergence of Lewis Miley and his contract set to enter its final year – Longstaff is likely to consider a move away from his boyhood club. Leeds? One to keep an eye on.
What Carlton Palmer has said about Leeds signing Longstaff

Longstaff is a proven Premier League player. Able to score goals from midfield, but one of those old-fashioned, hard-working, tough-tackling no.6’s that has an effect in both boxes. A really solid player.
If Leeds have the chance of doing a deal, they should. Former Leeds man Palmer agrees, saying to FLW this week: “He’s only got a year left on his contract, so this would be a very, very good signing.
“This would be a terrific signing for Leeds, a really strong signing for the football club. It’s one thing getting to the Premier League, but it’s another thing staying there,” Palmer continued, on Longstaff.
First things first for Leeds, though, is promotion to the Premier League. Without that, there is no chance of a deal for Longstaff. Eight cup finals left for Farke and his men, after the March international break.
