Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni suffered an ACL injury on his debut against Southampton.
The Reds teenager, who signed from Parma over the summer, was handed his first appearance in the Carabao Cup meeting with the Saints.
Leoni delivered a superb performance that had Liverpool fans raving, but sadly he had to come off late on in the game after suffering an injury.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Leoni had suffered a torn ACL and would be out for “several months”, and now Sky Italia have provided a further update.

Giovanni Leoni set to undergo surgery ahead of lengthy absence
Sadly, Sky Italia’s report about Giovanni Leoni’s injury suggests the situation is worse than previously thought.
The report confirmed that Leoni would be undergoing surgery on a ruptured ACL following tests on Wednesday.
Rather than several months out, Leoni is set to be out for a “long time”, added the Italian outlet.
Who could replace Giovanni Leoni in Liverpool squad
With Leoni set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Liverpool now find themselves short in defence.
Joe Gomez is now one of only two senior options to provide cover for starting centre-back pairing Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The other option available to Arne Slot is Rhys Williams, who was on loan at League Two side Morecambe in Slot’s first season at Anfield.
Williams stepped up for Liverpool several years ago alongside Nat Phillips during the defensive crisis they had at the time.
