Liverpool fans say one of their players delivered his best ever display in a red shirt in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton.
Arne Slot’s charges opened the scoring in the 43rd minute when summer signing Alexander Isak got his first goal for the club.
Southampton equalised on 76 minutes through Shea Charles, but Hugo Ekitike struck Liverpool’s winner in the 86th minute.
While Isak and Ekitike were in the spotlight for their goals – with the latter also getting sent off for taking his shirt off while on a booking – another player had Liverpool fans raving.

Liverpool fans rave about Federico Chiesa
The player in question is Federico Chiesa, who delivered a particularly impressive performance against the Championship side.
Chiesa grabbed both assists for Liverpool, setting up Isak for his opener before assisting Ekitike for the crucial second goal.
“Chiesa has been absolutely sensational,” one Liverpool fan wrote on X. “I genuinely think he’s best position is on the LW.
“He should rival Gakpo for that position.”
Another supporter said: “Prime Chiesa has arrived! Easily his best and fantastic performance under Anfield’s light!”
The praise for Chiesa kept coming, with one fan saying: “Federico Chiesa… he’s been brilliant today, best player on the pitch.
“Unreal work rate and showed for the ball every time, direct and a live wire when in possession. Deserved a goal today. Needs more minutes.”
Another supporter wrote: “Arguably the best performance Chiesa has had in Liverpool red. MOTM performance. Top guy.”
Another fan said: “This is hands down the best performance Chiesa has had in a red shirt.
“Absolutely brilliant, top to bottom. 10/10 and MotM for me.”

Federico Chiesa stats vs Southampton
The biggest contributions Chiesa made were his assists, but he delivered a number of impressive stats throughout the match.
For instance, the 51-cap Italy international delivered four key passes and created four big chances, along with winning five ground duels.
Chiesa also had a go with four efforts, with one hitting the target, and he also chipped in with two interceptions, one tackle and one block.

Chiesa hasn’t had much luck in terms of game time this season – prior to the Southampton game, he had only received 47 minutes of first-team football.
In addition, Chiesa is also not eligible to play in the Champions League after being omitted from the squad.
Considering how well the 27-year-old fared against the Saints, maybe Slot could come to rue this controversial decision.
