Alex Crook has claimed that West Ham United‘s interest in Club Brugge and Belgium midfielder Hans Vanaken is genuine and a move could go through this summer.

The Irons have brought in six new players already – Gianluca Scamacca, Flynn Downes, Thilo Kehrer, Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet. David Moyes, however, is still keen on further additions.

Vanaken has long been linked with a move to West Ham United.

The Belgian was Moyes’ top target in the summer of 2021. A move even seemed likely then, but it just didn’t materialise in the end.

West Ham are now reportedly keen to sign Vanaken again, and Crook has revealed that the Hammers have even had a bid rejected for him already.

Asked if Vanaken sounds like a typical Moyes signing, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Yeah, he does. The interest is genuine.

“I think their first offer has been turned down, so I think there’s a bit of work to be done on that one. But yeah, you’re right, he’s that sort of athletic type of profile that David Moyes loves.

“I think they will be, or try to be, one of the busier clubs in the last couple of weeks.”

Vanaken would be a really interesting signing for West Ham.

The Belgian, who will turn 30 next week, had a really impressive campaign for Club Brugge last season. He scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions and played a big part in helping his club win the league.

Vanaken, branded as an ‘incredible player’, is hugely versatile. He is naturally an attacking midfielder, but he can play as a number eight and as a false nine. Standing 6ft 5in tall, he’s a huge threat inside the box as well – a trait Moyes has always been a big fan of.

West Ham are expected to be busy in the final 12 days of this window, and it will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done for Vanaken before deadline day.
