West Ham make offer to sign £25m striker compared to Thierry Henry

West Ham have already signed one new striker this summer in Niclas Fullkrug – although a bid has been made to bring another to the London Stadium.

The Germany international swapped Borussia Dortmund for the London Stadium in a £27m deal following an impressive 2023/24 campaign, in which he scored 16 goals and provided ten assists in 46 appearances.

Now – however – Niclas Fullkrug could be met with fierce competition for a starting role as West Ham bid for another striker…

West Ham submit Elye Wahi bid

A story from RMC Sport in France now states that West Ham have bid for RC Lens No.9 Elye Wahi.

The 21-year-old has also been the subject of a €20m (£17m) bid from Marseille, who are seemingly turning attentions elsewhere after struggling to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal.

RMC Sport do not disclose the value of West Ham’s offer, although it is said that Leicester have also made Wahi a proposal.

The Frenchman only signed for RC Lens back in August 2023 in a £25m move from Montpellier, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances in his debut campaign.

RMC Sport make it sound as if RC Lens are open to selling Wahi – who has been compared to Thierry Henry – as long as they recoup that £25m fee, as the French news outlet state the Ligue 1 side do not intend to lose money from this transaction.

Julen Lopetegui could land a top talent

While 12 goals in 37 appearances is nothing to write home about, Wahi is still a top talent who has immense potential at the age of just 21.

It was only a year ago that Chelsea were pushing to sign the Courcouronnes-born wonderkid before he chose to join RC Lens instead.

Arsenal also enquired about Wahi at the time.

While Fullkrug is currently the striker West Ham fans are counting on for goals, the German is 31 years of age, so it would make sense to sign Wahi as a long-term option as well.
