Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is a wanted man in Italy with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma and Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio both interested in signing him this summer.

That’s according to journalist Enrico Camelio, who claimed this week that his sources have informed him about interest from the two Serie A sides in the talented Frenchman.

Ndombele is Spurs’ record-signing. Tottenham splashed £53.8 million to sign him in July 2019 (BBC), but the midfielder just has not been able to nail down a starting spot under any of the club’s managers he has played under.

Tottenham sent him out on loan to Lyon in January, but he’ll be back soon. Antonio Conte has no place for him now, and a move away again is a very real possibility.

Jose Mourinho and Maurizio Sarri want to sign Tanguy Ndombele

Both Roma and Lazio are keen to sign a new central midfielder in the summer to bolster their respective squads. Among all the names linked is Ndombele, and Camelio believes that the Frenchman would be available to sign on loan in the coming weeks.

He told RadioRadio: “We received a message around 1.30 am from a London source and informed us of the interest of Rome and Lazio in the midfielder (Ndombele).

“We then crossed paths and certainly found confirmations on the Biancocelesti (Lazio), while we are working on the Giallorossi (Roma).

“Mourinho wants a powerful player and he (Ndombele) is the ideal figure. He would come on loan.“

TBR View:

It’s a real shame that things haven’t worked out for Ndombele at Tottenham. His talent is unquestionable, but he just hasn’t been able to remain consistent under any of the managers he has played under.

Mourinho, who actually branded him as ‘magnificent’ at one point, was the first one to have a problem with the Frenchman at Spurs, and he dropped him on a number of occasions. That makes us wonder why he would want to sign him for Roma, but the intensity of the Italian top-flight is nowhere near as high as that of the Premier League.

With more time on the ball in a league like the Serie A, Ndombele could become the superstar many thought he would be. He’s a really dangerous player when allowed space, and a move to Italy could well kickstart his career.

However, whether Tottenham will allow to let him go on loan again this summer is anyone’s guess at this moment in time.
