'This was a low point': Tottenham man hauled off at half-time after 'erratic' 3/10 display on loan last night

Almost every Tottenham Hotspur fan was convinced that Tanguy Ndombele would become a massive player for them after Mauricio Pochettino signed him for a club-record fee in 2019.

However, the French midfielder’s time at Spurs wasn’t a good one at all, and every manager he worked under found one issue or another with his game that made him surplus to requirement.

Antonio Conte made it clear in the January transfer window that he wanted Ndombele gone. Spurs tried really hard to get him out on a permanent deal, but all they could agree on was a six-month loan to Lyon.

A return to Groupama Stadium seemed perfect for Ndombele, but things haven’t been great there either.

Tottenham loanee Tanguy Ndombele hauled off at half-time, gets 3/10 rating

Lyon went into the game against West Ham United in the Europa League as the favourites to go through last night. The first leg ended 1-1 and considering that the French giants were at home, many people expected them to go through.

However, West Ham absolutely battered them. The Irons were fantastic from start to finish yesterday and completely deserved to get the 3-0 win against a Lyon side who were shocking last night.

Ndombele started in the middle of the park, but he was subbed off at half-time after a really poor display. GFFN gave him a 3/10 rating and described his display as a ‘low point’ of his second spell at Lyon.

The outlet wrote about the Tottenham loanee: “Erratic on the ball and often uncertain positionally, he was subbed at half-time after running the first leg with West Ham down to ten men. This was a low point of his second spell at OL.”

TBR View:

Earlier this week, a report from France claimed that Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Ndombele and the Frenchman could yet have a future at Spurs.

However, after a performance as poor as last night’s, one can only wonder where he’d even fit in Antonio Conte’s side, especially if they qualify for the Champions League and have to face the best sides in Europe.

It really does look like Ndombele’s Tottenham career is over and it’s only a matter of time before Daniel Levy sells him. Spurs will surely make a massive loss on him, but it just might be the best thing for all parties now to go their separate way.

It will be interesting to see where Ndombele will end up, but if his performances in the coming games are on the same level as last night, no big European club will even consider him.
