‘Watching him’: Jesse Marsch says he’s warned 21-year-old Leeds United player in training in front of whole squad

Leeds United will be hoping they can show that their 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend was no fluke.

It was a result that stunned Jurgen Klopp’s side and lifted Leeds out of the relegation zone.

Manager Jesse Marsch was speaking to the press ahead of his team’s clash with Bournemouth this weekend.

Marsch had an unfortunate update on winger Luis Sinisterra, who now looks likely to be unavailable until after the World Cup.

This could give a further opportunity to last weekend’s match winner Crysencio Summerville.

The young Dutchman scored in the last minute at Anfield to secure a historic win for Leeds.

However, Marsch doesn’t want Summerville to get carried away, and has warned the winger in front of the whole squad in training.

It could be difficult to keep Summerville’s feet on the ground after scoring such an important goal.

That’s Marsch’s task now, as he’s going to find it difficult to drop the 21-year-old ahead of the Bournemouth match on Saturday.

Marsch warns Summerville in front of squad

Speaking to the press ahead of their penultimate league match before the World Cup, Marsch said: “I’ve told him I’m watching him in front of the group. Told him there’s no slipping back.”

Marsch added that Summerville still has things he needs to improve on going forward.

“Still, tactically, against the ball he can be more and more integrated. Being in the right position.

“One of our best at pressing and counter-pressing. Dynamic. More dynamic in transition to create chances.

“(His) potential (is) very high. Just need to keep pushing him every day.”

Leeds fans have been aware of Summerville’s potential for some time, and he’s now starting to add some end product to his tenacious work-rate.

Nottingham Forest also recognised his ability and tried to sign him in the summer, but he wasn’t interested in a move.

Marsch claimed earlier this month that Summerville is in the best form he’s seen right now.

The Dutch under-21 international will need to concentrate on maintaining those same levels when the Premier League restarts after Christmas.

Marsch has warned Summerville in front of the squad to show how much he wants to keep the winger on the straight and narrow.

Ultimately, it’s up to him to put the work in and reach the highest level possible.
