Report: Nottingham Forest aggressively tried to sign 21-year-old from Leeds in the summer, but he wasn't keen

Nottingham Forest were really desperate to sign Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer.

A report from The Athletic suggests that Forest really wanted to sign the 21-year-old winger on a permanent deal.

Summerville has propelled himself into cult hero territory at Leeds after his performance at the weekend.

He scored a last-minute winner against Liverpool that earned the Whites their first league win at Anfield in more than 20 years.

Summerville signed a new contract in the summer and has slowly worked his way into Jesse Marsch’s plans.

He’s now also scored in back-to-back games, with both goals coming in the final minutes.

Nottingham Forest went on a massive spending spree this summer to try and prepare for the Premier League.

Steve Cooper’s team ended up bringing in more than twenty players given how thin their squad was when they were promoted.

Forest reportedly tried to sign Summerville to add the young winger to his growing cohort.

Summerville is a versatile winger, who has already been used by Marsch on both flanks this season.

He would have offered Cooper a hard-working, direct threat out wide had he joined Forest in the summer.

Marsch has said Summerville is in the best form since he joined the club right now.

A report from Leeds Live at the start of the season suggested Marsch was going to start playing Summerville more and more.

That would have certainly been a factor in Summerville not being keen to leave the club in the summer.

His contract now runs until 2026, and he has plenty of time to establish himself in the Leeds first team.

However, it’s a sign of his current and potential ability that Forest tried to sign Summerville this summer.

He’ll be hoping he retains his place in the starting line-up against Bournemouth this weekend.
