Vincent Kompany has been left surprised by Chelsea’s decision to leave one player out of their squad who he believes is comparable to Leroy Sane.
Bayern Munich are preparing to face the Blues in the Champions League tonight, in the competition’s opening game for both teams.
It will mark Chelsea’s return to Europe’s elite competition, which they have previously won twice, and everyone in Enzo Maresca’s squad will be keen to feature in some capacity.
However, one talented player will not be involved after Maresca opted not to include him in Chelsea’s 23-man squad for the Champions League, much to Kompany’s shock.

Vincent Kompany hopes Raheem Sterling can ‘turn it around’ at Chelsea
Raheem Sterling has been placed in Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ this season after the Blues failed to find him a permanent home in the summer transfer window, with Maresca opting not to use him.
Sterling hasn’t been included in Chelsea’s European squad and is currently not even training with the first team, which Kompany spoke about during his pre-match press conference.
“It’s a tough one, I have a lot of respect for Enzo [Maresca] and my colleagues at Chelsea. It’s not easy to make a decision as a coach.
“Raheem is one of my former teammates, and that bond remains. My last year as a player, I had Leroy Sane, and those two were devastating in the Premier League for the team I was part of.
“I can only hope at this age that he can turn it around and show the whole world his quality.”
Raheem Sterling’s Chelsea future looks bleak
Despite Sterling’s talent and everything he’s achieved in the game, Maresca has not given him an opportunity at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal, but failed to make much of an impact under Mikel Arteta, and now his future in football is unclear.

Sterling had been rumoured to join Crystal Palace or West Ham United on transfer deadline day, but neither of those deals materialised.
Instead, Sterling is currently training away from the first-team group, and Maresca has publicly made it clear there’s no way back for him at Chelsea, putting his long-term future in question.
But at only 30 years old, there’s no doubt that the tricky winger still has plenty left in the tank to offer moving forward.
