John Terry reveals how Enzo Maresca has impressed him at Chelsea’s training ground

Enzo Maresca has enjoyed plenty of success during his time at Chelsea so far, and John Terry has revealed one reason why he’s working out so well at Stamford Bridge.

Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Maresca was appointed Chelsea manager ahead of the 2024-25 season due to his lack of experience as a first-team manager.

However, the Italian proved all the doubters wrong by guiding Chelsea to a top-four finish, while winning the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup.

While he may not have the same experience as managers like Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, Maresca’s youth is actually benefiting him.

John Terry reveals Enzo Maresca is ‘really close’ to the Chelsea squad

Maresca has brought the best out of many young Chelsea players, such as Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill, with the team responding well to his tactics.

However, it is his work on the training ground that has impressed former club captain Terry, who has experienced Maresca’s work firsthand.

“I’ve been very impressed with him, to be honest. I’ve been across, he’s very inviting with me.

“Obviously, I’m working in the academy, so I head over a couple of times when the young lads head over to the first team, and I get to see him work as well.

“He’s very personal with the players as well. I think the biggest thing for any manager this year, or in the last couple of years, has been to be really close to the players.

“He seems to have a real good connection with the younger players as well. He’s very young himself.

“He understands the players, he understands what they want, and he’s certainly getting the best out of them at the moment.”

Enzo Maresca has had to navigate injuries this season in the Premier League

Chelsea have made an undefeated start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign despite several major injuries.

Colwill is set to potentially miss the entire season with an ACL injury, while Palmer has only been able to play once due to a groin issue.

Chelsea are also set for a spell without summer signing Liam Delap because of a hamstring injury, which led to Marc Guiu’s recall from his Sunderland loan.

Despite that, the Blues sit second in the Premier League table as they prepare to face Brentford this week in their first game back since the international break.
