Tottenham are thought to be keen on signing Pau Torres from Villarreal this summer and could even get him at a discounted price.

Spurs’ interest in Torres is well known. He is among a cluster of top defenders on Antonio Conte’s list of potential signings. Indeed, Pete O’Rourke claimed just this weekend that Torres would certainly be a player Tottenham could look to sign before the window ends.

And while Torres is thought to have a £55m release-clause in his contract with the Spanish outfit, 90Min has reported today that the defender could actually be available for £10m less than that. 90Min state that Torres could be allowed to leave Villarreal is someone comes up with £45m. And in the current market and given what Spurs paid for Cristian Romero, that sort of fee won’t be sniffed at.

Lauded as an ‘absolutely brilliant‘ defender, Torres would surely be the final piece of the defensive jigsaw for Antonio Conte this summer. Spurs have already signed a number of players, including defender Clement Lenglet, but more new names are expected.

Fabio Paratici is also expected to move on a number of players in the coming weeks as Conte clears the decks.

TBR’s View: Pau Torres Worth The £45m Price For Tottenham

Champions League football and vying with the very best in England and Europe means having a deep squad of top quality, and Pau Torres brings that to Tottenham.

The Spaniard is a class act and he has done outstandingly well with Villarreal in recent seasons. That £45m price might seem big to some, but it’s actually a bit of a bargain buy when it comes to real top quality defenders.

If Conte gets Torres in to join his other new signings, then a title challenge might be even closer than some think.
