'Very nervous': BBC pundit thinks 28-year-old Everton player could be about to make a big mistake soon
One of those players was defender Conor Coady, who has had a great start to the life at Goodison Park.
A natural leader on the pitch, Coady had a goal disallowed, but slotted comfortably into Everton’s back four.
The other player Crooks selected was goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The 28-year-old kept a clean sheet against Liverpool, making several ‘fabulous’ saves.
Pickford could make a big mistake soon
However, Crooks still believes Pickford could make a big mistake soon.
Crooks said: “Pickford looks in good form at the moment and he was outstanding against Liverpool but that’s when I start to get very nervous about his performances.
“If he can retain this level of consistency then Everton and England will benefit enormously.
“Sadly, however, I can’t help feeling there’s always a mistake in Pickford especially when he’s been playing well.”
Since the start of the 2019/20 season, Pickford has made more errors leading to goals than any other Everton player.
His seven mistakes in that time have cost Everton at times, but he’s made up for them with plenty of big performances.
He’s also been Southgate’s number one for England for the last two major tournaments.
It would be a big surprise if he wasn’t between the sticks for the Three Lions in Qatar this winter.
Clinton Morrison believes he should be in goal for England ahead of the likes of Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale.
Former teammate Yannick Bolasie believes he’s ‘one of the best’ out there, and is clearly in very good form.
Crooks’ suggestion that Pickford could make a big mistake soon might be true, but right now he’s playing brilliantly.
