Troy Deeney has expressed his frustration at Raheem Sterling as the debate over Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ continues.
Sterling has been forced to train away from the first team this season after Enzo Maresca has deemed him surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling and Axel Disasi have been left out of the Chelsea first-team squad this season. The two men are training on their own as they are not part of Maresca’s plans.
Despite Sterling costing Chelsea £47.5 million when he joined the club in 2022, he clearly doesn’t have a future at the football club.

Troy Deeney believes that Raheem Sterling ‘can’t complain’ about his Chelsea circumstances
Chelsea’s treatment of Sterling has come under fire this week after he posted a picture of himself heading out to train at 8 o’clock in the evening, to the point that the PFA are now looking into the situation.
Sterling is currently on a £325,000-per-week deal at Chelsea, and was given the opportunity to impress on loan at Arsenal last season, with the Blues covering most of his wages.
However, Sterling struggled to make any significant impact under Mikel Arteta, and now Deeney has explained to talkSPORT that he’s become frustrated with the situation.
“My only frustration and concern at this whole thing is when we start feeling sorry for players who just had an opportunity to leave.
“The problem I have is, did any of us think Raheem Sterling was still going to be at Chelsea this year? So now you can’t complain.
“We knew this in April time, similarly to Isak. So all you have to do in that time period is talk about the compensation. It’s on both of them. Chelsea don’t want to do it.”
Deeney admitted that he would personally have taken a pay cut to leave Chelsea if he was in a similar scenario, but that wasn’t what Sterling did.
TBR Football revealed that Sterling had interest from Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Fulham. However, no deal was struck during the summer transfer window, leaving him at Chelsea until at least January.
Enzo Maresca believes Chelsea is giving Raheem Sterling the ‘opportunity’ to work
Despite speculation that Chelsea could be punished for their handling of Sterling and Disasi, Maresca is unwilling to change his sentiment toward them as players.
The Chelsea boss is adamant that they have no future at the Blues, and believes that the club is handling the situation correctly, as he explained in his press conference ahead of the Manchester United game, where they won’t feature.
“I’ve been in Raheem’s situation and Axel’s situation as a player. I know it is not the best feeling. You want to play games, but for different reasons, the situation is the way it is at the moment.
“The club is giving them the opportunity to work in the right way. That’s all I can say.”
Maresca then doubled down on footballers’ easy lives in comparison to others, making it clear there’s no room for complaint, regardless of people’s circumstances in the squad.
“My father is 75 years old and for 50 years, he’s been a fisherman, working from 2 o’clock in the morning to 10 o’clock. This is a hard life. Not for players.”
