Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Christian Eriksen.

The transfer guru, speaking on the Here We Go podcast, revealed that Spurs “would consider” moving for him.

However, the north Londoners are also aware that Eriksen will speak to Brentford first, said Romano.

Tottenham have been linked with the Denmark international, who shone for the Lilywhites earlier in his career.

Eriksen made 305 appearances for Spurs during a six-and-a-half year spell in north London.

He then joined Inter Milan in January 2020, making 60 appearances for them and winning the Serie A title.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s match against Finland at Euro 2020 last June.

He was subsequently fitted with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator.

Eriksen and Inter agreed to cancel his contract in December as players fitted with an ICD cannot compete in Serie A.

The Premier League does not have the same regulations, and in January, the 30-year-old joined Brentford.

Eriksen has impressed for the Bees, registering two assists and one goal in six appearances so far.

He has also capped off a remarkable comeback for Denmark, scoring twice for his country in March.

As well as Spurs, the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle are also apparently eyeing Eriksen.

“A matter of respect”

Here’s what Romano has said about speculation linking Tottenham and their former playmaker.

“We have heard of rumours about Eriksen and Tottenham in the last few days,” he began.

“The answer I’m always receiving from Eriksen’s side, is that he is not deciding now or in May.

“He wants to wait until the end of the season.

“He will meet and speak to Brentford. That is his priority, a matter of respect.

“We have rumours of Tottenham, because of his relationship with Conte.

“It is something Tottenham would consider, after he meets Brentford.”

“A top player”, “spectacular professionalism”

According to The Telegraph, Eriksen has been blowing people away behind the scenes at Brentford.

The report claims that a club source has branded the Dane as ‘exceptional’ since his arrival.

Eriksen has reportedly gone above and beyond to get to know staff and ways of working.

Overall, he’s showing ‘spectacular professionalism’ around the training ground.

And earlier this month, Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed Eriksen for his “unbelievable character”.

He spoke after the midfielder helped his side to a wonderful 4-1 win over Chelsea.

“Christian is a top player, an unbelievable character and he brings quality and calmness to the team,” Frank told the Evening Standard.

“You can give it to Christian and he’ll always find a solution.

“From the beginning I thought, ‘Everything has been checked in his entire body’.

“He didn’t have an injury like an ACL and when he took that decision that he wanted to play in the World Cup, that determination [of] ‘I want to come back into football’ [was there] and his foundation physically was quite good.

“We never knew how quick it would take to get to this level but it’s impressive how quick.”
