Tottenham will be front of the queue to sign Anthony Gordon - journalist

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham Hotspur are set to be at the front of the queue to sign Anthony Gordon should he look set to leave Everton at any point.

Gordon’s future at Goodison Park has been uncertain ever since his breakout campaign last year. Along with Richarlison and Jordan Pickford, the winger played a vital role in the Toffees staying in the Premier League.

Reports from The Sun suggested that Tottenham offered £100 million for both Gordon and Richarlison in the summer. Ultimately, it was only the latter who made the move to North London.

And Gordon has struggled to replicate the form of last season so far. He has only managed to score once since the end of August in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, Tottenham remain admirers of the 21-year-old. In fact, O’Rourke has suggested that they are one of the sides most interested in the Everton academy graduate.

“I think they’ve always had that interest in Anthony Gordon, that’s not going to go away,” he told Give Me Sport.

“Obviously, the longer he goes without signing a new contract at Everton, it’s always going to leave the door open for a potential move away from Goodison Park, and I think if he does end up leaving Everton, Tottenham are going to be right at the front of the queue to try and sign Gordon.“

Spurs taking potential gamble

It is a surprise to see Spurs so keen to sign Gordon still. Admittedly, he is still extremely young. And thus, his form is going to dip at certain points. It is also not the easiest time for an attacking player to stand out at Everton.

But there were suggestions in the summer that he was valued at £60 million. And it is hard to imagine that Everton will have any interest in losing him for much less.

He has been labelled a ‘sensational‘ talent. And Fabio Paratici may feel that he has an incredibly high ceiling. It should also be noted that he has been clocked as the fastest player in the Premier League this term.

But, based on his overall form this season, it would appear to be a gamble for Tottenham to make a move anytime soon while his asking price is so high.
