Tottenham transfer news: Antonio Conte makes breakthrough in bid to sign Pedro Porro
Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old since the beginning of the January transfer window.
Conte seems set on bolstering his options at right wing-back after Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have been largely underwhelming.
Fabrizio Romano claimed on Wednesday that Porro is keen on the idea of linking up with the Italian boss in north London.
Now, it seems Spurs have made a breakthrough in terms of convincing Porro to make the switch to England.
Tottenham make Pedro Porro breakthrough
Rudy Galetti reports that Conte has requested several reinforcements this month, with a new right wing-back being his top priority.
The journalist claims that Tottenham are pushing to sign Porro this month and the player has already reached an agreement in principle to make the switch.
But Sporting are holding firm on their valuation of the player and are demanding that his £40 million release clause has to be paid in full for him to leave this month. Negotiations are currently ongoing and Spurs will not give up on landing their top target this month.
Porro has been exceptional for Sporting this season and clearly impressed Tottenham when he played against them in the Champions League a few months back.
The Spaniard has already registered 10 assists in all competitions for the Portuguese outfit, while also bagging three goals in the process.
Ivan Perisic has been a brilliant addition for Spurs and is already proving to be a reliable creative outlet on the left-hand side. But the same cannot be said about the opposite side of the pitch, with Royal and Doherty struggling to make the same kind of impact.
Porro seemingly has the capability to solve this problem for Conte and has been described as a ‘very dangerous’ player in the final third.
But Spurs will have to come to some kind of compromise with Sporting over his release clause, while they will also have to offload at least one of their options in the position.
It’s certainly a positive that the player has apparently agreed to a move to north London, now it’s down to Fabio Paratici to get the deal over the line.
