Fabrizio Romano shares Pedro Porro's transfer stance amid Tottenham and Arsenal links

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move to sign Pedro Porro, but a report revealed yesterday that Arsenal want him as well.

The Sporting Lisbon defender is one of the most talented right-backs of his age in Europe at the moment. He is a magnificent player and it’s no surprise at all that the Gunners and Spurs are interested in his services.

Fabrizio Romano, however, has claimed there is ‘good news’ for Tottenham.

O Jogo in Portugal (via Sport Witness) reported yesterday that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Porro, who spent three years on Manchester City’s books.

It was claimed that Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the Spaniard.

That came in as a shock to many as Spurs have been the only club linked with his services recently, with Record even claiming that Antonio Conte’s side are the only ones to register an official interest in the 23-year-old.

Having a transfer battle with the Premier League leaders is never ideal, but luckily for Tottenham, Romano has revealed that Porro is ‘keen’ to join Spurs before the window shuts at the end of this month.

He said on House Of Champions: A Daily CBS Soccer Podcast: “The player they love is Pedro Porro from Sporting. This right-back is considered perfect to play under Antonio Conte in his 3-5-2 system. This is why Tottenham are in direct contact with agents and in direct contact with intermediaries to take care of the deal.

“They need some push because it’s not easy to convince Sporting. They have this release clause in his contract – €45 million (£39.8m). When in November they extended the contract of manager Ruben Amorim, they promised him that they’ll only sell players for the full release clause value. €45 million or nothing – at the moment Sporting insist on the money.

“But Tottenham are trying and pushing. The player is keen on the move – this is good news for Tottenham because it can help in negotiations. Pedro Porro is the priority.”

The Gunners don’t need him

Arsenal could do with strengthening in multiple areas of the pitch, but right-back isn’t one of them.

Arteta has Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu at his disposal, while Cedric Soares is also still at the club. Young Reuell Walters is capable of playing there too if really required, which eliminates the need for another player in that position.

Porro really is a fantastic player. He’s still young, is good at both ends of the pitch as a right-back and his potential is absolutely massive. He could become a real star in the coming years.

That may be why Arsenal are said to be interested, but they really don’t need him, which should give Spurs a free run at him in this window.
