Tottenham transfer news: Antonio Conte could sign 'amazing' player instead of Pedro Porro

Marco Barzaghi reports that the agent of Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries is in London and Tottenham Hotspur could sign him instead of Pedro Porro now.

Antonio Conte will be desperate to bring in some fresh faces this month, especially after his side fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to their bitter rivals Arsenal yesterday.

Spurs are lacking quality in the wide areas, particularly on the right-hand side. Both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have failed to produce what is expected of a Conte wing-back this season.

Tottenham did move to bring in Djed Spence over the summer but it is looking more and more likely that he’ll leave on loan after finding chances hard to come by under the Italian.

Of course, Spurs has been touted as a possible destination for Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro.  Rudy Galetti reports that the Spaniard has already agreed to a move to north London but Sporting are standing firm on wanting the player’s release clause to be met.

Now, it seems Tottenham could turn to Dumfries with the Portuguese outfit digging in their heels over Porro’s price-tag.

Tottenham could sign Dumfries instead of Porro

Marco Barzaghi reports that Conte is demanding reinforcements this month and Porro has been identified as a possible target.

But negotiations with Sporting are proving to be difficult, with Spurs offering around a £31 million fee that’s payable in three instalments. The Portuguese side are demanding his £40 million release to be paid in full and a break in negotiations is now possible.

The Italian journalist claims that ‘in the last few hours’ Tottenham have turned to Dumfries instead. The Dutchman’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is currently in London and working to try and reach an agreement, with Chelsea also interested.

Dumfries is valued at £44 million by the Nerazzurri, but Tottenham will try to convince them with an offer worth around £26m to £31m, which would be slightly cheaper than snapping up Porro.

Whether it turns out to be Porro or Dumfries, one thing is for sure that both players would represent a significant upgrade on Tottenham’s current options in the position.

Dumfries has been described as an ‘amazing’ wing-back but he has struggled to recapture his previous form since returning from the World Cup.

The 26-year-old certainly fits the profile of a Conte wing-back but Spurs will need to pay a sizeable fee to land the player this month.

Tottenham seem to be pondering over their options once again in the transfer market when it’s clear that they need upgrades, especially at right wing-back.
