Tottenham should have no doubts over signing 'different class' £40m player, he'd be brilliant - opinion
One player Tottenham Hotspur fans can probably expect to hear a fair bit about in 2023 is Sporting right-back Pedro Porro amid reports that Spurs are interested in the 23-year-old.
Reports from Jornal de Noticias in November claimed that Antonio Conte’s men want Porro as they continue their quest to solve the issues that they have had at wing-back.
Porro has been superb since joining Sporting permanently from Manchester City in the summer. He actually has nine assists in all competitions. And he was described as ‘different class‘ when lining up against Tottenham in the Champions League.
Tottenham may back away from Pedro Porro move
He will not come cheap. That report from Portugal claimed that Sporting wanted a fee close to his £40 million release clause.
And more recently, it has appeared that Tottenham have started to have doubts about a potential move.
Football London claimed that some at Spurs have concerns about his physical attributes.
Of course, there are reasons why Tottenham should be looking elsewhere. They already have three right wing-backs. And Porro will apparently cost nearly £40 million. So other positions should take priority.
However, it does appear that Spurs would be in danger of a potential mistake if they decide against signing Porro.
The Portuguese league is developing. And with that, we are seeing an increasing number of players thrive at their next clubs after moving on from the Primeira Liga.
Porro is making the kind of impact in the final third that none of Tottenham’s current wing-backs are making. He has 28 goal involvements in 91 games for Sporting. That is an outstanding return.
At 23, his value is only going to increase. So there is a chance that a £40 million deal could prove to be a really smart piece of business in the future.
Perhaps Tottenham will have something even more exciting up their sleeve. But judging by the latest reports suggesting Spurs have concerns, it appears that they could be about to make an error by letting the chance to sign Porro pass them by.
