Report: Tottenham insiders have doubts over £40m player Conte wants in January
Tottenham are being linked with a move for Pedro Porro in the January transfer window, with Antonio Conte desperate for yet more new faces.
After backing the Italian ever since he arrived, Conte is still after more new players to bolster his ranks. The wing-back areas are key to Conte, and reports this weekend have seen Porro become the latest to be linked with Tottenham.
However, while from the outside signing Porro looks a smart move, Football London is reporting that some inside Spurs think a bit differently.
FL suggests that while Porro is a player of interest to Spurs, there are concerns about his physical attributes and whether he fits the bill for what Conte needs from his wingbacks. So far, the likes of Emerson Royal, Mat Doherty and summer signing, Djed Spence, have all failed to nail down a spot on that right-hand side.
Porro has impressed recently at Sporting Lisbon and caught the eye playing against Spurs this season. He is believed to be valued at around the £40m mark. The 23-year-old was previously at Manchester City, who will – no doubt – be owed a part of any fee paid.
TBR’s View: Porro might still be better than what Spurs have
While those Spurs insiders might have a few doubts on Porro, he is surely better than Royal at least. The Brazilian is a model of inconsistency for Spurs and put simply, needs replacing.
The situation with Spence is an odd one. In terms of the physical attributes being mentioned here, he does seem to have them in abundance. But for reasons unknown, Conte hasn’t been playing him.
With Porro, Spurs would be getting themselves an attacking full-back capable of producing in the final third. But at £40m, it’s a big outlay in January and if there are doubts, then Levy might not sanction the deal.
