Tottenham thought they’d landed 45-year-old manager before being ‘let down’ prior to Postecoglou

Tottenham fans will be looking back at a summer that saw them linked with Arne Slot, Julian Nagelsmann and more with a smile right now.

After so much frustration in not getting a new manager over the line quickly in the summer, Spurs eventually settled on Ange Postecoglou. And what a masterstroke that has been so far.

Of course, things could have been completely different for Tottenham. A number of managers were linked with the job and one of those was Feyenoord coach, Arne Slot. The 45-year-old was said to have impressed Daniel Levy and was apparently offered more money to come to the club.

And according to The Telegraph, there was a feeling of disappointment and let down when it came to Slot.

Tottenham felt let down by Arne Slot before turning to Postecoglou

As we know, Slot was one of the leading contenders to take the Spurs job at one point. So much so, that The Telegraph reports on the internal disappointment of Slot’s decision to stay at Feyenoord.

The Telegraph claims that there was a sense of feeling let down by Slot, who had apparently looked open to moving to North London.

In the end, Spurs were forced elsewhere and it was Celtic’s Postecoglou who got the green-light.

Postecoglou has since guided Tottenham to the top of the table while over in Holland, Slot’s Feyenoord are lagging behind in fourth, some seven points of PSV at the top.

A lucky break for Daniel Levy

Of course, we don’t know how Arne Slot might have done with Spurs. It could be that he’d have done just as well as Big Ange and everything would be rosy.

However, Daniel Levy must be counting his lucky stars that Slot did indeed decide not to come, given just how much impact Postecoglou has had at the club.

The turnaround has been nothing short of remarkable and given the club lost Harry Kane in the summer as well, there’s so much to admire about Ange’s efforts.

Slot will remain a name of interest to English clubs. But for now, Spurs fans will be looking back with a smirk and thanking the heavens the Dutchman did indeed say no.
