Tottenham could've signed 31-year-old two years ago, now Arsenal can reportedly get him for free

TeamTalk revealed yesterday that Arsenal had been offered a chance to sign Ze Luis for free to solve their woes up front, but Tottenham could’ve signed him two years ago.

The Gunners let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave the club this week while Folarin Balogun was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough last month. That leaves them with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah up top, which is not ideal.

With the window closed now, Arsenal’s only hope of a new striker before the end of the season is if they’re ready to bring in a free agent.

Ze Luis can be that player if they want him and if that name sounds familiar to you, it’s because he almost joined Arsenal’s fierce rivals Spurs just a couple of years ago.

Tottenham were close to signing Arsenal-linked Ze Luis in 2020

Back in January 2020, when Jose Mourinho was still at the helm at Tottenham, Spurs were on the lookout for a new striker as a backup to Harry Kane. A number of names were linked, including Ze Luis, who was then at Porto.

Portuguese TV station SIC Noticiasas reported by Correio da Manha, claimed that the striker was ‘very close’ to a move to Spurs and super-agent Jorge Mendes was negotiating a loan deal.

Rumours made Spurs fans believe that a move was imminent in the 2020 winter window, but it never materialised.

Tottenham’s only attacking signing in that window was Steven Bergwijn and Ze Luis went to Russia to join Lokomotiv Moscow instead.

Arsenal can sign him for free now

Ze Luis is currently a free agent after Lokomotiv Moscow released him last month.

The Cape Verde international had a really poor time in Moscow. He only played 16 times during his time there with Lokomotiv and scored one goal, which is a shocking record for a striker.

TeamTalk claim that a number of Turkish sides are in talks to sign him but his agents have offered him to Arsenal.

The Gunners, if they really want him, can get him for free, but the chances of that happening are extremely slim.
