Football journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in Everton star Anthony Gordon and could rival Chelsea in the race to sign him in the final few days of the window.

The 21-year-old Englishman’s stock has gone up considerably over the last few months. Everybody knew he was a good player, but nobody really expected him to be the subject of outrageous bids from some of the biggest clubs in the country.

That, however, is exactly what seems to have happened.

Reports claimed this week that Chelsea have tabled a mammoth £60 million bid to sign Gordon this summer, and the player is apparently keen to move to Stamford Bridge.

Spurs have had a sensational transfer window so far. Antonio Conte’s side have brought in seven new players already, but Fabio Paratici is still looking for a wide man, and Gordon is said to be among the names on his shortlist.

Chelsea clearly seem the favourites for the Everton star’s signature at the moment, but Brown believes Tottenham could go in with a bid of their own to sign Gordon in the coming days.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham are one to watch on Gordon because they came in for him earlier in the window and they’re still very interested.

“So, it would not surprise me if Spurs got into the mix before the end of the window.”

TBR View:

Gordon has been brilliant for Everton over the last few months. Branded as a ‘very explosive’ player by Rafa Benitez, there’s no doubt that he’s a hugely talented player.

However, a fee as high as what has been reported feels a bit too much for someone who has scored just four goals in his entire senior career.

Don’t get us wrong, Gordon could sign for a top club and really explode. He can become one of the best players in the country in a few years’ time, but there are better options available on the market for a far more affordable fee at this moment in time.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming days, but we’ll be really surprised if Spurs go and match Chelsea’s reported offer for Gordon in this window.
