Tottenham could make last-minute move to sign £45m Premier League player

Tottenham Hotspur could make a last-minute move to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this month.

That’s according to journalist Paul Brown, who believes Spurs could test Chelsea’s resolve with a ‘lowball offer’ in the final days of the transfer window.

Tottenham have already wrapped up deals to sign Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin this month, with the club moving to address two key areas of Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The Aussie boss is still keen to bring in a new midfielder though, with Conor Gallagher heavily linked.

It’s already been claimed that there is a ‘growing chance’ of Spurs lodging an official bid for Gallagher.

And Brown claims that could come in the ‘last couple of days’ of the transfer window.

Tottenham could make late move to sign Gallagher

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown explained why he believes Spurs could yet leave it late in their attempts to land Gallagher this month.

“So sources at Tottenham were very quick to come out and deny that any talks have taken place between the clubs for Conor Gallagher, but we do know that the club like Gallagher a lot,” the journalist said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Daniel Levy tries a lowball offer towards the end of the window just to test Chelsea’s resolve, because Chelsea are asking quite a lot of money for Conor Gallagher, and I don’t think Spurs are going to spend that kind of money on anyone this month.

“But as we get closer to the end of the window, we’ll start to see just how desperate Chelsea are to bring some cash in by the end of January.

“I think that is what the Spurs’ strategy might be here. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you see some action for Gallagher in the last couple of days of the window.”

It’s no secret that Gallagher has plenty of admirers at Tottenham, with Postecoglou said to be a huge fan of the midfielder.

Chelsea are believed to be seeking a fee worth at least £45 million to consider a sale this month.

But it would be a surprise if the Blues were to allow their academy product to leave mid-season. The Englishman has been a key feature of Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term and has even worn the armband in Reece James’ absence.

Reports have also suggested that Gallagher will turn down a move away from Stamford Bridge this month, even if Chelsea do accept a bid from the likes of Spurs.
