Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes is set to have his medical at Wolves today, according to Sky Sports.

The Portuguese international is set to join Bruno Lage’s side for £25m, and will provide Wolves with another much-needed additional attacking option.

The report from Sky Sports says: “Goncalo Guedes is now having his medical at Wolves, he’s going to have it today.

“The £25m deal was reached with Valencia last night for the Portuguese winger.

“He can play on both wings, he can also play as a striker as well.”

Guedes scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in La Liga for Valencia last season, as they suffered a disappointing mid-table finish.

Wolves are seriously short of forward options right now, with Raul Jimenez unavailable due to injury and Fabio Silva on loan at Anderlecht.

Adama Traore was also left out of Wolves’ squad for their opening day defeat to Leeds, with Tottenham apparently considering making a bid for the rapid Spanish winger.

This left Lage no option but to play Daniel Podence – who opened the scoring – alongside Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto, but they couldn’t do enough to take a point back to Molineux on Saturday.

Guedes having Wolves medical today

There’s been much more attention on potential Wolves outgoings over the last few weeks, so fans will be pleased that the squad is being strengthened before any business takes place.

Captain Conor Coady looks to be nearing an exit to Everton, while Wolves have rejected a £35m bid from Nottingham Forest for Morgan Gibbs-White, who started the game against Leeds.

Wolves finished last season in 10th place, and for much of the season were flirting with a spot in the Europa Conference League.

However, they were struggling to score goals, and only managed 38 all season.

They were kept in matches by the heroic performances of Jose Sa in goal, but Lage’s side can’t keep relying on the Portuguese stopper to keep them in games and will be hoping Guedes is the answer.

While Jimenez is ruled out, Guedes will have to get up to speed quickly to adapt to the Premier League and his team’s new play style if Wolves are going to repeat their top-half finish from last season.
