Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were both reportedly interested in signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca this summer, but he has just penned a new contract at his current club.
The 23-year-old Italian was on the wish list of multiple top clubs across Europe. Dubbed the new Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Scamacca has scored 13 goals this season, which is more than any other Arsenal player.
FC Inter News revealed a couple of weeks ago that Arsenal and Newcastle have knocked on Sassuolo’s door to express their interest in Scamacca. Tottenham, on the other hand, had ‘already explored’ the possibility of signing the Italian before the second week of February, according to journalist Dean Jones.
Sadly for the two North London sides, it will be extremely difficult to sign him now.
Gianluca Scamacca snubs Arsenal and Tottenham by signing new contract
Sassuolo confirmed yesterday that Scamacca has signed a brand new contract at the club and it runs till the summer of 2026, which is over four years away.
“The Sassuolo Calcio Sports Union announces the contractual renewal of the sports performances of the following Neroverde player: Gianluca Scamacca (1999, forward) until 30 June 2026,” the club’s press release read, as per Sky Italia.
The Italian, branded as an ‘excellent professional Ascoli president Massimo Pulcinelli,‘ was valued at £34 million earlier this week before he put pen to paper, but now that he has committed his future to the club, that valuation will be considerably higher.
Arsenal and Tottenham’s chances of signing him look a lot slimmer now, but it’s not impossible by any means.

TBR View:
Even though Scamacca has just signed a new long-term deal, it’s not a guarantee that he’ll stay at Sassuolo beyond the end of this season.
Sky Italia claim that Inter and AC Milan are still keen to sign Scamacca, as are a few unnamed foreign clubs. Arsenal and Spurs may well be the ones interested, but his new deal definitely does complicate things.
It will be interesting to see how much Sassuolo will demand for Scamacca now that they are in an extremely strong position in potential transfer negotiations.
