Jurgen Klopp made an interesting point about Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane not getting a red card back in December after Liverpool beat Southampton in the Premier League last night.

The Reds are still dreaming about winning the quadruple, but that is looking extremely unlikely now. Manchester City are a point ahead of them at the moment, and with just one game left to be played, you’d fancy Pep Guardiola’s side to get the job done.

Liverpool, however, deserve immense praise for what they’ve done in the Premier League this year. Since the turn of 2022, Klopp’s men have played 18 games, winning 15 and drawing three.

That sort of form usually wins you the Premier League title, but sadly for Liverpool, Manchester City are just too good. However, Klopp believes one decision that went against his side back in December could be the reason why they aren’t the league leaders at the moment.

Jurgen Klopp remembers Harry Kane not getting a red card

Speaking about the title race ahead of the final game of the season, Klopp said, as per Liverpoolfc.com: “I’ve no idea what happens on Sunday, to be honest.

“It was game 18 tonight, right, from the second part of the season? We won 15, drew three.

“Against City, we know we were lucky at City, that was not the best, not a good game. Against Tottenham and Chelsea, these two away games, when we had our corona outbreak, when we played… I love Tyler Morton. I love him. But he played on six at Tottenham. In that moment we were in a good shape, and then we get these little problems.

“I don’t see other teams don’t have problems, just our problems. So, we could have… this game was the situation when Robbo got the red card and Harry Kane didn’t get the red card. Just to think back.”

Things could’ve been very different

In the 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in December, Harry Kane lunged in with his studs showing at the very start of the game. It was a red card all day long, but the referee and VAR decided to just hand him a yellow card.

Kane then went on to score the opener and had a decent game. Liverpool did manage to come from behind and take a 2-1 lead, but Son Heung-min equalised in the 74th minute, just three minutes before Andy Robertson saw a red card.

That made it extremely difficult for Liverpool to pick up a win in the final 13 minutes of the game, and those two dropped points could well be the reason why the Reds will miss out on the Premier League title, and in turn, the quadruple, this season.

It has been five months since that game and Klopp has not forgotten about that decision. Unless City slip up on Sunday, we expect him to remember this ever longer.
