‘They peaked’: Marcus Rashford now says Tottenham man is under pressure in England training
Rashford was previewing the Three Lions’ quarter-final against France, and talking about life in the England camp.
England have shared a number of videos of the squad enjoying themselves in training.
There are plenty of games going on, and the squad are unsurprisingly competitive.
One player who always seems to be involved is Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier.
After working his way back into the England set-up this season, Dier is Southgate’s go-to man if John Stones or Harry Maguire need resting.
Dier’s already been mocked in training for his boots, but has impressed Phil Foden with his passing.
Rashford has now said that Dier has already peaked when it comes to England’s heading game in training.
The Tottenham player has been paired up with Everton defender Conor Coady.
However, Rashford now says they’re both feeling the pressure.
Dier under pressure in England training
Speaking to the Lions’ Den, Rashford was asked how competitive their head tennis games get.
“There’s a few different partnerships,” Rashford said.
“Eric [Dier] and Coads were the champs at the beginning of the tournament but nobody wants to peak early and they peaked!
“A couple of the lads have beaten them now and it wasn’t happening at the beginning of the tournament so they’re under a bit of pressure.”
It’s unlikely that Southgate will make any changes at centre-back for the match against France.
Dier could step into the team if he decides to go with three central defenders, but Kyle Walker tends up be favoured in that set-up.
The Tottenham defender has done exceptionally well to be involved in Qatar, and appears to be a popular figure in the dressing room.
Antonio Conte will be glad to see Dier staying fit in training while away from the club.
He’ll be hoping to return to north London alongside Harry Kane with a winner’s medal around his neck before the Premier League restarts.
