Chris Sutton has given his verdict on Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a player Tottenham Hotspur sold for £6 million.

The former Celtic striker and BBC Sport pundit believes that Carter-Vickers is the best defender in the Scottish Premiership.

So, what has Chris Sutton said about former Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers? Let’s take a look.

Former Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers ‘the best’ in Scottish Premiership

Well, Celtic will take on Rangers at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the Old Firm derby, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has said that Cameron Carter-Vickers will not play.

That is because the former Tottenham Hotspur central defender has a hamstring injury.

Reacting to the news, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has noted that Carter-Vickers is the best defender in the Scottish Premiership.

Carter-Vickers has given one assist in 13 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Hoops this season.

The 25-year-old USA international central defender played 29 times in the league last season.

Cameron Carter-Vickers flourishing away from Tottenham Hotspur

It is a shame that Cameron Carter-Vickers could not make an impact at Tottenham Hotspur, but I am happy to see him flourishing at Celtic.

The 25-year-old has progressed and developed a lot at Celtic. He has even been compared to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. Playing regularly for the Hoops has helped the American polish his game and fulfil his potential.

Carter-Vickers has won the Scottish Premiership title twice, the Scottish League Cup on two occasions, and the Scottish Cup once during his time at Celtic so far.

Interestingly, Carter-Vickers was linked with a move back to Spurs in the summer of 2023 after Ange Postecoglou left Celtic for the North London club to become their manager.

The Daily Star reported in June that Postecoglou wanted Spurs to re-sign Carter-Vickers. The Tottenham manager worked with the USA international defender at Celtic.
