Scott Brown says Celtic have a player who’s starting to remind him of Virgil van Dijk

Celtic’s win over Dundee continues Brendan Rodgers’ side’s decent form in the run-up to the Rangers game this Saturday lunchtime.

Two victories over Livingston and Dundee with five goals scored and none conceded will give the Celtic team a huge confidence boost ahead of the top-of-the-table clash.

Goals from Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston restored Celtic’s five-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership and the fans will be hoping that Rangers slip up against Ross County tonight at Ibrox to make the Glasgow Derby encounter much more interesting.

However, it wasn’t the goalscorers that impressed Scott Brown. The Celtic legend was speaking about Cameron Carter-Vickers and whilst hoping that the US defender is fit for the Rangers game, Brown compared the 25-year-old to Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk.

Brown said [Sky Sports Scotland], “I’m actually looking forward to it [Glasgow Derby]. Celtic, two clean sheets in the last two games and two good performances as well.

“Look a threat going forward and solid that the back. Let’s hope and pray that Cameron Carter-Vickers is fit for that because you see the difference in any team when he’s in.

“He can get left one for one at the back, he’s solid.

“Me and Faddo [James McFadden] were talking a little about he’s got that kind of Virgil look and understanding.

“He’s strong, he’s quick. He reads the game really well and he controls the game from the back and you’ve got Callum McGregor in the middle of the park there as well. They’re two huge leaders for the club.”

Cameron Carter-Vickers is Celtic’s rock

The ‘man mountain‘ of a defender has been an absolute rock for Celtic ever since his move from Spurs in 2021.

The Hoops have only ever lost twice in the Scottish Premiership whenever he has started and against Rangers, Carter-Vickers has been on the winning side on six out of the nine times he has faced them. The only defeat was in the Scottish Cup semi-final of 2022. [Transfermarkt]

Carter-Vickers has forged a very good partnership with Liam Scales at the heart of the Celtic defence and Rodgers will be hoping that the 25-year-old will be fit for the visit of Rangers.

Celtic could open up more daylight between themselves and the Ibrox club with a win on Saturday but to do that their chances will be greatly improved with Carter-Vickers in the team.
