Christian Eriksen looks likely to leave Tottenham sooner rather than later. Most recently, there have been rumours of him being involved in a cash-plus-player switch that would see Gareth Bale coming back to the club.

The Danish midfielder has made clear his desire to leave the club, and if this is still the case, Tottenham need to prepare for life without him. Here are three midfielders Tottenham should target to replace the 27-year-old.

Spanish midfielder Isco has found minutes hard to come by this season and has reportedly been offered to Premier League rivals Chelsea for just 52 million Euros.

Tottenham could do a lot worse than a four-time Champions League winner. Isco’s creativity and ability to cut opposition defences open make him a perfect replacement for Eriksen. If Spurs managed to get the Spaniard in for the rumoured fee, it could prove to be an absolute snip.

Kai Havertz

The 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is seen by many as one of the hottest prospects in world football. He could become a key feature in the Spurs midfield for the next decade if he made the move to North London.

His passing ability and eye for goal means he would fill the gap left by Eriksen exceedingly well. However, Tottenham may have to wait until the summer before they make a move. Havertz recently decided that he wants to stay in Germany for at least the remainder of the season.

James Maddison

Maddison has been a key part of the Leicester side that has taken the Premier League by storm this season. He has scored five league goals and provided three assists, helping his side to second in the table.

The 23-year-old could, however, be tempted by the idea of working under Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager has used his pull to attract players in the past and could do it again with the Leicester man.

He would certainly improve Tottenham’s attacking impetus from midfield, and would fit in well with the England international’s currently at the club.
