Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool may have to wait until the summer if they hope to sign Kai Havertz, with Sky Sports reporting that the 20-year-old is planning to stay with Bayer Leverkusen for the rest of the season.
Havertz is one of the most highly sought-after talents in Europe. Sky Sports reports that Spurs and the Reds are joined by Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for his signature.
However, it appears that they are all set for disappointment if they were hoping to make a move in January.
According to Sky Sports, he is enjoying his time with the Bundesliga club. And he is expected to stay at the BayArena until at least the end of the season.
TBR View – Summer move may suit Havertz’s admirers
Of course, some of his admirers may have hoped to make a January move in the hope of catching the other interested clubs off-guard. But it could be argued that a summer move could be best for all parties.
Havertz is surely not going to come cheap. The Daily Star recently reported that he is valued at around £80 million. That will see him under additional pressure to hit the ground running. It must already be difficult to join a new club in January.
Moving in the summer – if he decides that that is the time to leave Leverkusen – could boost his chances of living up to expectation.
But it will be interesting to see whether any of his admirers still plan to try their luck in January.
