TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is a better player than Granit Xhaka.

The Gunners signed the Uruguayan from Sampdoria in 2018 for £26 million (BBC). He became a regular under Unai Emery that campaign and quickly became a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium.

In his first season at Arsenal, Torreira played 50 games in all competitions. He was one of the best players at the club, but Unai Emery’s decision to play him in a more advanced role in the following campaign completely shattered his confidence.

Torreira has never looked the same, and he has no place at Arsenal anymore.

Tottenham-supporting pundit O’Hara was asked if he would keep or sell Torreira at Arsenal this summer. The Englishman claimed that the Gunners should hold onto the Uruguayan – because he’s ‘better than Xhaka’.

O’Hara said on talkSPORT Edge: “I liked him. I thought he was decent.

“He reminded me of myself the way he played a little bit, he was horrible, nasty. Personally, I’d keep him because I think he’s alright.

Unfortunately for O’Hara, it doesn’t look like Mikel Arteta will be taking his advice this summer.

Xhaka is one of the most important players in the Arsenal boss’ system. He is almost a guaranteed starter in every game, and that is unlikely to change any time soon – unless the Gunners bring in a top-quality number eight.

As for Torreira, he has no future at Arsenal. The Gunners have apparently told him that there’s no place for him, and reports have led us to believe that he could be on his way to Turkey to join Galatasaray in the coming days.

It’s a shame that Torreira hasn’t been able to replicate his debut season’s form at Arsenal again. A move away this summer is the best thing for all parties involved.
