Report: £26m Arsenal player on verge of exit, he's now flying over for medical at his new club
Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly on the verge of sealing a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
According to The Express, the Gunners fringe player is now making his way to Istanbul for a medical with Galatasaray.
Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria four years ago, for a reported £26m fee.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a superb debut campaign in the Premier League.
However, after a difficult second season at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta decided that Torreira wasn’t part of his plans.
The Uruguay international was loaned out to Atletico Madrid in 2020 and then to Fiorentina last season.
Many expected the Serie a outfit to sign Torreira on a permanent deal.
However, Fiorentina decided against snapping the player up in the end.
That annoyed Torreira, who had to return to Arsenal in pre-season.
But now, it looks as though both the Gunners and the midfielder will finally be parting company.
The Express claims Torreira is flying to Turkey to undergo a medical with Galatasaray.
This is ahead of a permanent transfer worth £7.5m plus add-ons, added the report.
Torreira himself recently reiterated his desire to leave Arsenal.
He said, as quoted by Uruguayan outlet El Pais: “My chances of staying (at Arsenal)? None!
“From the beginning, they told me that I had no place.
“So my desire is not to stay either, since I suffered a lot, it cost me a lot to adapt.
“Any team that wants me has to buy my file, which today has a value of approximately €15m (£13m).”
In selling Torreira, the Gunners will be getting a reported £75,000-a-week off their wage bill.
