Spanish giants Athletic Club have commemorated Jamie Carragher’s career at Liverpool by handing him an award.
The defender came through at Anfield, progressing through the reserve team until he became part of the senior team in 1996, having signed professional terms with the club.
Jamie Carragher had played at left-back before he eventually slotted in as a centre-back, where he was ever-present for Liverpool.
He fought his way into the England team, even with the quality of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry at the time.
After 17 seasons and plenty of trophies, the defender eventually hung up his boots and moved into the punditry role he is known for now.
All those years on from his time in the Premier League, he has been recognised for his devotion to Liverpool from an unlikely source: Spanish giants Athletic Club.

Jamie Carragher handed the “one-club man” award by Athletic Club for his Liverpool spell
Jamie Carragher has been recognised by Athletic Club with the 2025 “one-club man” award.
The award was established in 2015, recognising those who played for just one club throughout their career, highlighting their loyalty.
Athletic Club’s model is based on playing local stars in the team, with the award resonating well with their own beliefs.
The current list includes Matt Le Tissier, Paolo Maldini, Sepp Maier, Carlos Puyol, Billy McNeill, Ryan Giggs, Ricardo Bochini, Joao Pinto and Giuseppe Bergomi.
Speaking to the Athletic Club website, Carragher said: “After winning the Champions League, being a one-club man is the biggest achievement of my career.
“It was an honour when Athletic Club got in touch. Athletic are respected everywhere in the world of football. They’re a truly unique club.
“I’m very honoured to receive this award and to know my name will always remain alongside some great footballers like Paolo Maldini and Carles Puyol.
“As soon as I started playing for Liverpool, I knew I wanted to be a one-club man. I like the idea that when people ask, ‘Who did you play for?’ You respond: ‘Liverpool’ and nothing else. I was a supporter on the pitch.”
It was certainly a huge achievement, one that is harder to achieve in modern football with the current climate surrounding transfers.
However, Carragher’s playing career will be remembered for his achievements in red during an important part of the club’s history.

Jamie Carragher’s Liverpool career in numbers
Jamie Carragher spent 17 seasons at Liverpool, racking up 737 appearances in that time, from a youngster to his eventual retirement.
The defender picked up four goals and 20 assists in that spell, though there were a fair few own goals to his name as well.
In terms of trophies, there were still a few on offer, despite there being some tough times in Liverpool’s history during that time.
- League Cup x3
- FA Cup x2
- Community Shield x2
- UEFA Super Cup x2
- UEFA Champions League
- UEFA Cup
In all, it made for a career to remember, going down as one of the greats in Liverpool history, and a loyal player and supporter at that.
