Paul Merson now believes that Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham Hotspur beyond the end of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The England skipper’s future has been up in the air for a long time now. It was clear that he wanted to leave last summer and Manchester City were desperate to sign him.

However, Daniel Levy made it clear that Kane was going nowhere and the Tottenham chairman won that battle.

Many feel that the transfer saga will continue again this summer and Manchester City could well make another move to sign the Englishman. Merson, however, believes that the ship has sailed.

Paul Merson: I think Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham

Speaking about Kane’s future in his column on Sportskeeda, Merson believes that Manchester City may not even come back for him because of Erling Haaland, which would then open the door for United to make a move for him.

However, the Sky pundit feels Kane will just stay at Tottenham.

He wrote: “Kane’s future has once again come under the limelight and it’ll be up to him this summer. Manchester City are reportedly in for Erling Haaland so they may not come back in for him, so could it probably be Manchester United?

“Will he look to move on in search of trophies or stay at Tottenham to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record? Something tells me he might stay – his mind is probably made up already!”

Almost every Tottenham fan now will be praying that Merson is right, and he could well be.

If Manchester City go with Erling Haaland this summer, that eliminates the need for Kane. Chelsea’s current problems mean they’re unlikely to make a move for the Englishman, which leaves just Manchester United in England.

The Red Devils really could with a striker like Kane. He would be absolutely perfect for them and if they get their next managerial appointment right, they could become a force again in the Premier League.

However, United have struggled to become the team they once were and there’s no guarantee that will change even if they sign Kane. That could convince the Englishman to just stay at Tottenham and end his career as a club legend.
