Some of the Newcastle United coaching staff were genuinely concerned that Kieran Trippier would leave the club amid interest from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.

Just a couple of months ago, the idea of Kieran Trippier leaving Newcastle would have been unthinkable. The 33-year-old has been an ‘amazing‘ and game-changing signing for the club, arriving when the Magpies looked to be in serious danger of being relegated. He has also provided seven assists in the Premier League so far this season.

Unfortunately, Trippier’s form has dipped over the last couple of months. And it appeared that the right-back was going to get the chance to leave St James’ Park in this window.

Some Newcastle staff feared Kieran Trippier would leave for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich made a couple of offers for Trippier. But as reported by The Times, the full-back is set to remain on Tyneside beyond this window.

It is a big boost for Eddie Howe and Newcastle, particularly as some people within the club seemingly feared that Trippier would end up making the move to Bavaria.

The Times reports that some of the Newcastle coaching staff were concerned that Trippier would look leave the club to join Bayern.

Big boost for Magpies

It never seemed to be a deal which made sense for Newcastle. Bayern would not have been willing to pay a huge sum to sign Trippier. So his departure would have hardly left Eddie Howe with the funds to invest in the squad.

Newcastle do have Tino Livramento ready to succeed Trippier at some point. But their squad has been decimated by injury. So it would not have helped to let another key player leave.

So unless Trippier had pushed to leave, it would never have been the right move for Newcastle to consider.

Thankfully for the Magpies, it seems that the England international will not be going anywhere for the time-being.
