Paul Merson has been speaking about Newcastle and Luton this weekend and believes Kieran Trippier’s form is a big worry.
Trippier has been in a bit of a struggle lately. He made a couple of glaring errors against Tottenham in the 4-1 loss, while he made a big mistake to allow Chelsea back into things in midweek.
All in all, it’s been so unlike Trippier, who we’ve seen be consistent for England and the Toon.
For Newcastle, Trippier’s poor run coincides with their own run of bad form. They’ve lost three from five in all competitions now.
And Merson, speaking about the weekend’s fixtures, believes Trippier’s form is difficult to witness right now.
Paul Merson says he’s sad to see Kieran Trippier struggling
Writing in his weekly prediction column for Sportskeeda, Merson feels it’s a tough weekend coming for the Toon and highlighted Trippier’s form as a worry.
“Kieran Trippier is struggling right now and it’s sad to see. His confidence seems to have dropped after a strong start to the season. I just think this is going to be a very difficult game for Eddie Howe’s men. If Luton get in front first, I don’t see Newcastle steamrolling them after that. I’m leaning towards Luton but I still think the spoils might be shared in this one,” Merson said.

Trippier needs to bounce back
There’ll be nobody as annoyed with how he’s playing than Trippier himself. He has prided himself on being brilliant for so long now and that’s why he gets picked for England and Newcastle.
Mistakes in football happen and the old saying goes it’s how you bounce back from them really.
Trippier is experienced enough to know this is just a blip and he’ll be back on the horse soon enough.
It is odd how his errors have cost Newcastle games too. In a way, that shows you just how important he has been for the Magpies in that when he’s messed up, it’s cost them games.
This weekend, then, is a chance for the England right-back to put things back to normal.
