Journalist Florian Plettenberg has suggested that Bayern Munich are likely to make their improved offer for Kieran Trippier today, with Thomas Tuchel convinced about the Newcastle United star.
Kieran Trippier is attracting attention in the January transfer window two years after his arrival on Tyneside. Trippier has not been in the best form of late, but there is no question that he has been an outstanding signing for the Magpies.
Bayern Munich are keen to reunite the 33-year-old with Harry Kane and Eric Dier in Bavaria. But they have, so far, been unable to convince Newcastle to agree a deal.
Bayern Munich likely to make fresh Kieran Trippier bid today
Trippier is apparently happy to stay at Newcastle. But Bayern remain determined to test the Magpies’ resolve to hold onto the England international.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Florian Plettenberg suggested that the Bundesliga champions are planning to make a fresh offer for the full-back – which may come as early as today.
“I’m totally convinced that they will improve their offer again,” he said. “We don’t have the confirmation that the deal is off. As I told you, they have no other alternative. We are in the countdown and we are in the end of the transfer window, so FC Bayern Munich, the squad is very thin.
“Thomas Tuchel is pushing for a new right-back. He is convinced that Kieran Trippier is the right player for the right time for Bayern Munich now. So I’m totally convinced that Bayern will improve their offer again, probably today.”
Newcastle’s response will surely be the same
At this stage, it is hard to see what Newcastle really gain by letting Trippier go. Bayern are looking to secure a bargain.
Trippier has not been the same player recently. But a fee of around £12 million is not going to change the game for Newcastle. They do have Tino Livramento waiting in the wings, and they may save some significant money on Trippier’s wages, but that is unlikely to fund the signing of a better player.
Trippier has been such an ‘amazing‘ signing in this era for Newcastle. So if he is happy to stay and Bayern are not offering crazy money, you would think their latest bid will be met with the same response.
