Sofyan Amrabat was ‘waiting’ to join Tottenham last January, now Liverpool could sign him

Reports from Italy this week have claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Sofyan Amrabat – a midfielder who was desperate to join Tottenham Hotspur not too long ago.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have had a shocking start to the new season. They’ve won just six of their first 14 Premier League games, and they’re already 15 points behind Arsenal, who lead the way.

Reinforcements in January are a necessity, and Amrabat is the latest name out of the rumour mill.

Liverpool want to sign Sofyan Amrabat

Almost every Liverpool fan will agree that the weakest area in their side is their midfield.

Klopp and co were really keen to sign a new central midfielder in the summer, but their main targets proved to be unattainable. They brought in Arthur Melo towards the end of the window, but the Brazilian suffered a very bad injury and has barely played.

In one of the next two transfer windows, everyone’s expecting Liverpool to sign another midfielder, and Fiorentina’s Amrabat would be a very interesting option.

The 26-year-old Dutch-born-Moroccan international is a defensive midfielder by trade, but he has also filled in at centre-half for La Viola this season.

He will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January (Fiorentina have the option to extend it by another year), and it looks like he’s a wanted man as a number of clubs are reportedly keeping an eye on him.

Liverpool are one of them, and as a budget option, it won’t be a surprise at all if they make a move for him.

He was ‘waiting’ to join Tottenham last January

This isn’t the first time Amrabat has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

At the start of this year, in Antonio Conte’s first transfer window as Tottenham’s manager, the Moroccan was heavily linked with a move to Spurs.

Multiple reports suggested that a move is likely, and Fabrizio Romano even revealed that Amrabat was ‘waiting’ and really wanted to join Tottenham.

Sadly for him, a move didn’t materialise, but if things go his way in the coming months, he could well become a Liverpool player.
