'Getting closer': Romano says Spurs are on verge of signing player Conte thinks is 'perfect'

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat in recent days.

Calciomercato claimed on Tuesday that Spurs were closing in on a loan for the midfielder with £12.5million option to buy.

Meanwhile, Viola News reported that Amrabat just needs to agree to join Tottenham and the move can happen.

The links between Amrabat and Spurs seemingly came out of nowhere and caught some Tottenham fans out.

Prior to that, there was speculation linking Tottenham with the likes of Franck Kessie and Weston McKennie.

However, it looks as though this rumour has legs and is very likely to happen.

“Perfect player for Conte’s ideas”

On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano spoke on the Matt Hayes – Tottenham Blog YouTube channel about Spurs’ January transfer window activity.

He talked about Amrabat, claiming Spurs are closing in on a deal for a player both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici rate highly.

Romano also let fans know that, although the Morocco interational is currently struggling for game time at Fiorentina, he was superb at Hellas Verona.

“The feeling I have is that Tottenham are getting closer to signing sofyane amrabat,” said Romano. “Let’s see in the coming hours what happens.

“But I can say Tottenham – as we said on Sunday, they opened negotiations with people close to Amrabat and with Fiorentina.

“This is the plan – once (Tottenham) complete some outgoings, they’re ready to go for Amrabat as midfielder.

“He’s in this moment the main option because Antonio Conte is convinced this is an important player.

“Perfect for his ideas and perfect for the Premier League. Same for Fabio Paratici.

“This player, with Verona, was one of the best midfielders in Serie A two years ago.

“With Fiorentina they changed the manager so that’s why the situation changed, because the manager played completely different football.

“Amrabat is kind of the perfect player for Conte’s ideas and this is why they want to go for him. It’s a loan to buy option.”
